When I was still a young girl with extremely dirty feet and a tendency to run wild, an old lady with a wry smile and a missing tooth told me that a picture speaks a thousand words. I vowed to her that I would make a picture that speaks a thousand and one words. Ever since then I have been chasing one record after another in picture verbosity.
In 2007 I completed my degree in BA Fine Arts, majoring in photography, at the University of Pretoria. I decided to devote the following year to a more design orientated approach. I enrolled at the Open Window School of Visual Communication as well as taking up an internship position at a graphic design firm. In the meanwhile my photography was honoured with a Merit Award at the Sasol New Signatures Competition 2007 and the Gerard Sekoto Prize at the Absa L’Atelier Competition 2008. In 2009 I went to the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris where I spent three months vigorously shaking hands with artists from all over the world.
2010 marked my first solo exhibition. A travelling exhibition visiting all the major cities in South Africa, sponsored by The Alliance Française and The French Institute in South Africa.
I have been a professional designer and illustrator ever since life abruptly informed me that ‘coming of age’ is not in fact a euphemism for discovering the subtle flavours in a French cheese.
