Fleshy Wasteland

This is my first solo exhibition. It will be travelling South Africa during 2010. For more information on dates and venues visit the Alliance Française website.

The following work is based on an instant message conversation between me and a friend:

Retha: I find it dizzying to think that all these people experience things at more or less the same intensity that I do. I just feel like all this energy should cause an explosion, and I guess it does… All the time :/

Bretton: Yes. It’s overwhelming. Isolation helps.

Retha: We’ve been talking for an hour, do you know that since we started this conversation the world human population has increased by 9207 members?

Bretton: Although in a sense what we’re all doing is trying to put as many slices together and say “This is the big picture”, it’s not. It’s just a set of slices.

Retha: Here… Let me help you visualise it. How does it make you feel?

Bretton: It looks like a star cluster very very very far away…

Many thanks to Bretton Vine for being a revered source of inspiration.
